Policy DS5 – The Spatial Strategy to 2039

Representation ID: 4647

Received: 19/12/2022

Respondent: Staffordshire County Council (Education)

Representation Summary:

Offers advice on the level of growth required to trigger the need for a new primary or secondary school (750+ and 5000+ dwellings respectively). New settlements and urban extensions should meet the full education requirements through new schools, expansions or use of existing capacity. Additional school transport provision to areas away from the local area negatively impacts on proposals to reduce carbon emissions. Confirms the indicative costs for new school provision on sites based to Q2 2022.

Confirm that sites' impacts on education can be mitigated through commuted sums towards existing schools. In some broad locations with larger site allocations (Bilbrook, Penkridge, Linthouse Lane, Cross Green) the scale and nature of new first/primary school provision required to mitigate development impacts is provided. Indications are also given where transport for secondary/high school education is required from each site (e.g. Perton, Featherstone, Swindon, Wheaton Aston, Coven, Cross Green, Linthouse Lane, Brewood etc.).

Representation ID: 4648

Received: 19/12/2022

Respondent: Staffordshire County Council (Education)

Representation Summary:

It is unlikely existing secondary school infrastructure can accommodate a large settlement therefore a development of around 5,000 dwellings is the trigger for a new school.
